Casagrande wins in Stock Car and takes the championship’s lead

The leadership of the Stock Car Pro Series is in new hands for the sixth time in eight rounds in this season. That is, in hands that have already held the lead in 2023. Gabriel Casagrande (#83) won race 1 on the 2,278 meter circuit in Nova Santa Rita, near Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul and finished seventh in race 2. With these 46 points, Casagrande was the highest scorer of the two races held on the Velopark track and took the lead in the Stock Car Pro Series. A.Mattheis-Vogel Team’s driver, Gabriel dreams of his double champion, as he won the 2021. Átila Abreu (#51) won race 2.

In the first race, Casagrande took advantage of the pole position he achieved the day before and raced ahead.

In some laps, he had to hold off a lot of pressure from Felipe Fraga (#88), 2016 Stock Car’s champion. In final laps, Casagrande's performance got even better and he opened up the distance to Fraga. Another victory for Gabriel, his second in 2023; now he has nine in Stock Car.

This Sunday's second race started with a surprise: Daniel Serra (#29), who finished the first race in tenth, would start first, according to the Stock Car regulations. However, on the alignment lap, the three-time champion's engine went into safety mode due to the high level temperature, and Daniel was unable to compete in the race.

On lap 12, Átila took the lead, which was held by Rubens Barrichello, during the pit stop window. Then, Pole Motorsport Team’s driver was pressured by Ricardo Zonta (#10) in the final laps. The former F1 driver made 17 overtakes in this race. But, Átila held off Zonta's attacks and won for the second time this season – he won the round before, in Goiânia. It was his 19th victory in Stock Car.
